Daniel Taylor, Cedar City, Utah: No HEAL, Just HARM

There is a group out there calling themselves, HEAL”. They claim their mission is to liberate humans, animals and the earth itself. Their name is an acronym for their mission. The letters in the word “heal” as applied to this group stand for:

Human
Earth
Animal
Liberation

Think about that for a little and let that sink in. They want to liberate humans, animals and the earth. From what, exactly?

They are (in our humble OPINION) an arrogant, self-righteous group of far-left liberals who feel that they can employ whatever half-truths, outright falsehoods and faulty logic they can come up with to justify their end. They’re a group that obviously believes that the end justifies the means. We will not stoop to elevate their website here by providing a link. Normally we would when we’re referring to information posted on a website. But this group is so far out there and in our opinion so libelous and defamatory that they do not warrant that small amount of respect.

And they are out there defaming Daniel Taylor and Integrity House without any facts or background backing up their position. Their position seems to be that if it’s a facility that treats teens who misbehave, which Integrity House is, that it must be evil. And to be clear, when we mention misbehaving, we mean things like kids drinking, smoking pot and doing other drugs, skipping school, getting suspended from school, assaults, arrests and other dumb stuff. So it spans the gamut from simply being obnoxious and misbehaving to outright illegal activity.

All you need to know about HEAL is contained in their mission statement:

HEAL is an egalitarian network of activists self-empowered to plan events, create change, and make the world a better place for all life. Our goals include the liberation of humans, nonhuman animals, and the earth! We work in cooperation with like-minded organizations that put compassion in action!

(Don’t you love that? “Egalitarian activists.”)

Here’s how HEAL plays the game: They have a page on their website that is about Integrity House. At the very top of the page, without providing any background information whatsoever, any hint of supporting documentation, they immediately jump right into character assassination of Integrity House by stating that, “We advise current and/or former staff to report any abuses you may have witnessed while working at Integrity House. For information on your rights and how to take action, visit (HEAL website link redacted). If you were fired or forced to resign because you opposed any illegal and/or unethical practices at Integrity House, you have the right to take action.”

So right away you see how they manipulate things. The assumption by HEAL is that there were abuses going on there. The assumption is that there were people fired or forced to resign because of, we suppose, opposition to illegal or unethical behavior at the facility. Any facts anywhere? No.

And then there’s this: “Please don’t place your loved one in Integrity House and rescue them if they are there now.” What? Really? Based on what information, exactly? Based on what documented abuses or complaints? Show us the records, please, that you’re basing this statement on.

If they’re referring to Daniel Taylor’s entanglement with the law over false claims of sexual misconduct and rape, made by girls at Integrity House who since were described by officials in the follow-up investigation as showing that “several of the alleged victims and witnesses lied about the underlying charges.” This was according to a motion filed in 5th District Court in Cedar City, Utah, where Taylor was charged. And here’s the thing: the HEAL folks didn’t miss that. They actually have a link to a story that reports on Taylor’s exoneration on their page. That just goes to show you the extent of how much Kool-Aid they’re drinking.

And, of course, they have the police booking mug shots of Daniel Taylor posted at the top of the page, front and center, so you can’t miss it.

All this serves to hurt Daniel Taylor and Integrity House. It’s in the court of public opinion. Here’s what Taylor was facing: According to the Deseret News, which was only one of two news organizations that we found that actually reported on Taylor’s exoneration after all the media hype surrounding his arrest and charging, “Taylor had been charged with three counts of rape and three counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, all first-degree felonies. He was also charged with child abuse, a class A misdemeanor, and assault, a class B misdemeanor, in connection with alleged incidents involving clients and employees at Integrity House in Cedar City.” After his arrest, Taylor was terminated from his position at Integrity House. And his life has been pretty much ruined as a result of the false accusations and ongoing legal issues. He lost nearly everything because of the fallout from the accusations and is trying to rebuild his life. He already had lost most of his eyesight previously (he’s legally blind).

HEAL? No, not really. It’s really just the opposite. In our opinion, this group should be operating under a different name: HARM.

There’s a Lot More to the Story Behind Daniel Taylor’s Arrest and Dismissal of Charges

At least some news organizations are still in the game of reporting news rather than just stirring controversy.

We’ll call out a couple of them that we’re appreciative of who at least followed up the stories of Daniel Taylor’s arrest with updates when charges were dropped, and they are the Deseret News and the Cedar City News.

We’ve simply linked directly to the articles (above) rather than rewrite or summarize their follow-ups.

So the current, up-to-date headline of Daniel Taylor’s story is that all charges have been dropped against him after he was falsely accused of sexually abusing three girls living at Inegrity House, a facility, a home, he began in 2001 to help troubled teens get their lives back together. The reason the charges were dropped, as quoted from the motion to dismiss, signed by Chief Deputy Iron County Attorney Troy A. Little and filed with the court: ” … it was discovered in the follow-up investigation that several of the alleged victims and witnesses in the case lied about the underlying charges.”

Unfortunately, there are a number of other news organizations out there that haven’t followed up on the original reporting of his arrest. All you have to do is go to Google and do a search for him and see what pops up. As a result, the accusations initially raised in the charges being filed are still out there, still live, and can still be easily found, because too many news organizations don’t follow up their own stories. They don’t even write new ones that would supersede the previous ones. They don’t even “top” the old stories with fresh information. Something that can easily be done in today’s online world.

Today’s society rushes to judgement on charges like this; they discover the news that an administrator of a girls health facility has been arrested and charged with rape, and they see the always unflattering police mug shots of the man, and hear the girls’ allegations, and conclude that he must be guilty. It’s an instant gratification society led by the web. And it just hangs out there, forever.

There’s plenty more to be told beyond what these public reports have written up. There’s a lot more to this story. So please stay tuned as we spell it all out here.

The Beginning of it All

It’s amazing how quickly your world can come tumbling down on you. For Daniel Taylor, it happened at the end of May in 2013. One day he was going about his business as the founder of a youth home for troubled teens, trying to help them out and be a positive influence on them, the next day he’s being hauled to jail by police, not even charged initially, but arrested on the allegations that he raped and sexually abused girls in the home.

It was devastating. And nothing could be further from the truth.

Here’s what the local media had to say about it, as written up by the Salt Lake Tribune:

“Daniel Taylor, 42, was the director of Integrity House until police arrested him on Friday. He was booked into Iron County jail on suspicion of three counts of first-degree-felony rape, three counts of first-degree-felony sexual abuse of a child, and one count each of misdemeanor assault and abuse, according to jail records.”

That was published on July 1, 2013. And Mr. Taylor’s life has never been the same since, even though eventually the charges filed against him were dismissed. What will follow in future posts is his side of the story. Because the true story of what happened in relation to his arrest, detention, charging, trial and subsequent dismissal has never been told in full.
